I’ve started an Instagram account (yes, I know, +pie!).

instagram1

why INSTAGRAM…

I’m still struggling a bit with how to use Instagram and why to use it. Instagram is a branding and marketing tool but I don’t really want to use it as that at the moment. I like my progress so far regarding Etsy branding—that is, I have a logo of sorts and my Too Many Pies shop is consistently all over the shop when it comes to colour, style, materials and listings. Most reflective of ‘a finger in too many pies’. Tick.

And I don’t want to drive traffic to my shop quite yet. Most of my work is experimental. One-offs aren’t sustainable in a commercial sense. I don’t want to be beholden to ‘make’ for the ‘customer’. (Great gratitude to the people who have bought from my shop—I’m so thankful you have found my work just the same)

instagram is good for…

Instagram is good for capturing on-the-run images that support my process. In this space my little pies can ‘talk to each other’.

They can talk colour ‘whoa! same, same’ or ‘wow! you’re very different…’ or ‘do you really think you have to be purple?’

They can talk texture and form ‘you’re a five-petalled flower too!’ or ‘what does it feel like to be a fabric design?’ or ‘let’s talk mathematically’

They can talk together about the world and imagination and struggle and influence and serendipity.

Unlike Pinterest, Instagram facilitates that dialogue without all the visual noise. And that suits my purpose at the moment!

FLATUS

The orange fart that is the White(?)house Administration intends to force Australians to disclose their social media histories, phone numbers, email addresses and personal family details (amongst other things) to gain entry into America. That assumes that any sane Australian would consider visiting the US at this moment. Analysts consider that this action is the […]

The soul army (Make America Go Away)

Apologies to my friends in America. America, you sold your soul to the devil. In a few short months America has lost its identity and may yet go through some heinous hell beyond economic pain, who knows for how long? You (those surrendering sycophants) are a proven Kakistocracy. The rest of the democratic world is […]

Bully, read my lips

The continuing farce that is America prompts this post. The duds in the Orangehouse are successful in one thing—rallying support against them. The bully tactics are typical. But support for the victims (except American ‘victims’ that brought this on themselves) is increasing around the world. Bullies don’t win when sane and strong people stand against […]

From addiction to admission

Today I am continuing to declutter some of my work and storage spaces so that I can 😊 … 😅store some more yarn. Beyond having just the whole shebang of yarns and tools, I have categories of projects (unfinished and start-pending) that need to be ‘filed’ in organised niches. I just googled knitting addiction and found an old mamamia article […]

Mastered! 2015

According to the Craft Yarn Council definitions of skill levels for knitters I have done enough to pass beginner and easy levels and am beginning to work at an intermediate level. In 2015, I focused on creating my own simple designs and ‘mastered’ a few techniques along the way: So, here’s celebrating learning to: make simple […]

Yarn calculation

On my Too Many Pies blog I’ve talked about how I don’t like to follow patterns. Now I’ve taken another technical step to develop my own knit patterns—calculating how much yarn I will need for a project before I begin, rather than jumping in and finding I don’t have enough yarn of a particular colour. I’m knitting a cushion cover […]

Taking food for granted

I never would have guessed that I would have to limit the types of food I could eat. I don’t have any allergies or food intolerances so count myself lucky. But for the last 4 months I’ve had a condition called LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease), also known as silent reflux. First two disclaimers: 1. I’m self-diagnosed. […]

Breakfast compote

It’s been a long time in-between drinks (posts) so to speak. We’ve been eating too well and I’m always too hungry to think about getting the camera out to take some pics. We’ve also renovated our kitchen, and with that comes added impetus to post some more stuff about food. Breakfast is huge in our […]

Chocolate cake promise?

What’s the promise in chocolate cake? How does this food adhere to my rules of thumb? Well … it sort of fits into ‘options to suit your health and lifestyle needs’ … sort of. I actually don’t like chocolate. People who know me are used to that fact, but strangers often won’t believe me. We […]
